Iceland lends support to nationwide campaign to support communities during COVID-19

May 14, 2020

Iceland has today become the first corporate partner for Community Action Response, an initiative set up to encourage everyone to do what they can to support others in their communities, particularly vulnerable and isolated people, during the COVID-19 crisis.

The initiative was developed by Eden Project Communities and involves 27 cross-sector partners, with the immediate objective of providing crisis support, and a longer-term intention of harnessing the current community spirit and turning it into everyday actions. The four actions set out by the initiative offer practical guidance on how to reach out and help – Be Kind, Connect, Support and Share.

As well as supporting the campaign on social media, Iceland will be using its digital window posters in high street stores across the UK to bring the campaign’s key messages directly to members of the community carrying out essential shopping tasks.

Richard Walker, Managing Director at Iceland, commented: “These times have been challenging for everyone across the country, but it has been fantastic to see communities pull together to support society’s most vulnerable and isolated people. Community Action Response has been a catalyst in many communities in championing informal volunteering and creating much-needed networks to provide support quickly and effectively to those that need it.

“Iceland is delighted to partner with Community Action Response, helping to spread their key messages as part of our wider plan to feed the nation. Iceland is rooted in communities and our presence across the high street and retail parks means we can spread the campaign’s important message in over a thousand communities across the UK.”
