Iceland serves up over 700 Christmas dinners at Community Shops across the UK

December 23, 2019

For the second year in a row, Iceland donated turkeys and all the trimmings for a Christmas dinner to remember at Community Shop.

Throughout the year, Iceland donates surplus food to Community Shops across the country. This December, the retailer served up Christmas dinner to over 730 members of Community Shop in some of the most deprived areas in the UK. Everything from turkeys to desserts was donated by the supermarket to ensure a delicious three-course festive feast could be enjoyed by all.

Iceland’s Head Development Chef, David Lennox, joined Community Shop Director, Gary Stott, at the newly opened Community Shop in Halton, Runcorn, to personally serve Christmas dinner to 40 members of the local community.

Nigel Broadhurst, Managing Director at Iceland, said: “Christmas is all about family and friends, as well as food, and we are delighted to have been given the opportunity to support a local community in this way. We pride ourselves on supporting as many people as possible by offering excellent value food, but we know that some families need some extra support at Christmas.

“The Community Kitchen is already offering an invaluable service to the people of Halton, making a huge difference to the people it serves. It has been a real honour to be involved in the first Christmas dinner

served at the community hub. We are proud to support Community Shop in the fantastic work they do across the country.”

John Marren, Chairman and Founder of Comm

unity Shop, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be hosting our Christmas Lunch with Iceland once again this year. As a result of our longstanding partnership and their generosity, Iceland has enabled us to provide a festive Christmas dinner to hundreds of our members across the country.

“Not only do these lunches provide our members with a warm and wholesome meal, they also bring closer together the communities we are so proud to support. Everything we do at Community Shop is with the aim of building stronger individuals and more confident communities, and we are thrilled to have been able to work together with Iceland once again to deliver lasting positive social impact.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the whole team at Iceland for their ongoing support, as well as colleagues across Company Shop Group and our Community Shop members, for making 2019’s Christmas Lunch such a success.”
