Richard Walker joins the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders

March 13, 2019

Iceland Managing Director Richard Walker was hugely honoured to be chosen as one of 127 new members from all round the world invited to join the WEF’s Forum of Young Global Leaders.

The Forum of Young Global Leaders (YGLs) is a five-year leadership programme that brings together diverse, dynamic and globally representative leaders with the mission to create a community with the vision, courage and influence to drive positive change in the world. During the transformational five-year experience, YGLs embark on a journey that mobilises their collective talents and accelerates action aimed at tackling societal, political and environmental challenges.

Each year thousands of candidates are proposed through a public nomination process. With the purpose of creating a truly representative body, candidates are evaluated by the Forum of Young Global Leaders and the World Economic Forum, undergo an interview process and, as a final step, are assessed by a selection committee.

With more than 1,300 members and alumni, the community represents more than 100 nationalities and is united by the belief that our pressing problems present an opportunity to forge a better future across sectors, generations and borders.

Richard Walker said: “It is obviously hugely flattering – and challenging – to be invited to join a global community that includes heads of governments and Fortune 500 companies, winners of Nobel Prizes and Academy Awards, UN Goodwill Ambassadors and very many distinguished business leaders and social entrepreneurs. I look forward to collaborating with my new co-leaders in helping to achieve transformative change in the world by harnessing business as a power for good.”
