Working with our communities

As well as raising over £30 million for charity, colleagues actively support their local communities, for instance through our partnership between the Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation and the Alzheimer’s Society.

This has seen 30,000 members of our store and head office teams enrolled as Dementia Friends, many colleagues taking part in sponsored Memory Walks across the country, and the Foundation supporting monthly dementia-friendly cinema screenings.

We divert unsold food from our depots to communities and have donated unused freezers to food banks across the North West and North Wales. We are also part way through a trial in our The Food Warehouse stores to give away unsold food which is approaching its ‘best before’ or ‘use by’ date free of charge to staff.

In 2021 and 2022 the Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation is powering the ‘Million Mile Clean’ campaign run by the charity Surfers Against Sewage.

To date in 2021 this has mobilised more than 100,000 volunteers at over 3000 beach, river, city and mountain locations across the UK. It is the UK’s biggest coordinated volunteer clean up activity, so far collecting an incredible 320,862 kilos of rubbish a figure that is growing all the time.
