Iceland launches UK’s first reduced plastic Christmas dinner

Iceland is the first supermarket in the UK to offer customers the choice of a reduced plastic Christmas dinner. The range includes 16 products which are entirely plastic free, and an additional eight products with significantly reduced plastic packaging.

Last year it was predicted that 103,000 tonnes of plastic waste would go into landfill following the Christmas period. Plastic consumption increases significantly at Christmas time, taking into account the excess packaging used on many gifts, plastic found in wrapping paper, and additional grocery items purchased as families stock up for the season.

Many of the solutions implemented in Iceland’s Christmas range are being seen for the first time in the UK, such as those for the Three Bird Roast, Stuffed Turkey Breast Joint, Luxury Beef Wellington and Extra Tasty Turkey Crown. The changes made to the packaging will reflect an average 97% reduction in plastic across those products in the range.
