Iceland pledges to ‘Get Nature Positive’ by 2030

Iceland has signed a pledge along with nearly 100 other leading British businesses to get nature positive by 2030 and reverse the business community’s negative impact on nature.

In line with the Council for Sustainable Business’ (CSB) challenge for businesses to take further action, Iceland has vowed to work towards halting and reversing the decline of nature by 2030, a target driven by the fact that the natural world is being degraded faster than at any other time in human history. Many of the world’s tropical rainforests, coral reefs, coastal wetlands and other life-sustaining ecosystems, are at the brink of collapse.

The pledge is just part of the CSB’s ‘Get Nature Positive campaign’, which last month launched its Nature Handbook for Business, to help businesses understand the impact they have on nature and support them in navigating the global effort to arrest the decline in nature by 2030.

Richard Walker, Managing Director of Iceland, is one of the 13 members of the CSB, a group of business leaders appointed by Defra to advise on how businesses can achieve the government’s 25 Year Environment Plan.

Council members are asking the business community to commit to working with Government to deliver a green and resilient economy, aligning government policy and industrial scale to deliver ambitious environmental solutions – driving a ‘decade of difference’ for climate change and nature.
